* The weather. November begins our absolutely gorgeous weather here in AZ. While the rest of the country begins to head indoors to hibernate through the winter, we get to head to the park for play dates, open up our windows, go on bike rides…it is bliss.
* The smell in the air. We don’t get the smell of fresh leaves here, that is for sure. BUT…we do get the smell of fires being lit around the neighborhood whether it be for s’mores, bonfires, pit fires…..and I love it. {Is that weird?}
* Black Friday. It’s {sorta} a holiday within itself.
* Thanksgiving. It’s one of my favorites. We eat too much, go to the movies, and then head back to my parents house to eat some more. It’s the ONE day where it’s OK. Right?
* Christmas tunes come into my daily rotation. Yes…in November….they do. Not yet. But they will.
* Mint hot chocolate is served in most places now.
* Pumpkin cream pie. The ‘cream’ part is a must. Pumpkin pie straight up? Eh.

Most people begin a daily challenge of posting something that they are ‘thankful’ for each day leading up to Thanksgiving. While I’ve always LOVED this idea…I think it’s time to get real up in here. I’ll be posting blatantly honest things I’m thankful for this month. No cushion around it. Just straight up honesty.
So without further ado………
Grant attempting to make his bed. It doesn’t happen very often. |
Day 1. I am thankful for the sound of silence just after my kids’ bed time.
It means that my kids have pretty much surrendered for the day.
When I hear silence I know: they won’t be coming downstairs 52 times to tell me something, complain, say they need a drink of water, etc. When I hear silence I know that the teasing, fighting and complaining is done for the day. When I hear silence at bedtime….I become grateful for energetic kids who go non-stop all day long and then crash at night. When I hear silence at bedtime I know that I am ‘off duty’ for a while from wiping bums and making sure other bums get properly wiped. When I hear silence at bedtime, I know…it’s time to pour a cold one and celebrate the long day.
And today was definitely one of those LONG days.
P.S. Is it just me? or does everyone else’s kids take like FOREVER lately to go to sleep?
Seriously….I’ve heard every excuse…IN THE BOOK this week!
