Today was my first Sunday of teaching with the new youth curriculum.
To my suprise…I got MUCH more participation than I expected.
Participation is going to be KEY in making these lessons successful, I’ve decided.
It was definitely a change. Teaching this new way.
But this change is one that I think will not only enrich the lives of our young women, but also bless and inspire the lives of us as leaders as well.
If you are in charge of teaching this year…may I give you one piece of advice…
PREAPRE! PREPARE! PREPARE!
You will need to start studying your lesson material AT LEAST a week in advance, if not more.
You will need to study the suggested scriptures, conference talks, etc. and then pray for a way to tailor it to the needs of your girls.
I focused my lesson today on:
We distinguised WHO was a member of the GODHEAD, we talked about EACH of the 3 member’s ROLES as a member of the GODHEAD and then we discussed how the GODHEAD is completely unified with ONE PURPOSE {Moses 1:39}.
In order to get this point across {I’m a VERY VISUAL person!}
I used an analogy that I found on Sugardoodle.
It involves holding up a candle to the class and showing them that just as the GODHEAD has THREE DISTINCT ROLES.…so does the candle.
The actual CANDLE represents our Heavenly Father.
{Light the candle with a match}.
The FLAME represents our Savior, Jesus Christ – the Light of the World.
The OXYGEN needed for the flame to burn represents the Holy Ghost, whom we cannot see.
OXYGEN is necessary for the flame to burn. Otherwise, the candle would not work properly.
So it is with the Holy Ghost…we cannot see him, we only see the effect he has in our lives and in the lives of others.
Just as each one of these elements is necessary for the candle..the same is said with the GODHEAD.
Each member has a DISTINCT role.
I purchased the candles at Wal-mart for $1.
I typed up the FIRST ARTICLE OF FAITH
and then printed it out onto sticker paper so that it would stick right onto the candle when I cut it to size.
{I removed the original stickers from the candle first. They were ‘easy peel’ so they came off super fast.}
I tied around a bow and my lesson handout was born!

Such a cute idea! However, according to the handbook, you should not have open flames in the church building. Just FYI.

Love love love this! Just what I needed for the lesson on the Holy Ghost! Another off topic questions: any ideas for this years theme for the YW's birthdays? Our President bought those really soft socks for them and wants me to come up with a saying to go with the theme. My minds gone my only daughter's getting married in 3 weeks! Any idease?
Thanks!

I'm posting my idea with a free printable TOMORROW! And it's your lucky day because it just so happens to be SOCKS as well! xoxo

I've said it before and I'll say it again ~ I would hate to be the one that teaches these girls when you are released. It would be a tall order to fill, to be as good of a teacher as you have been. I wonder if these girls know how lucky they are to have you as their teacher. Keep up the good work. This is a darling idea.

I use Avery #48165 – It's the full sheet labels size 8 /12 x 11. They are great! You can find em at Wal-mart for the cheap!
