For about the past 5 years, our Relief Society has done a
‘SUMMER READING’ challenge of sorts.
It’s actually called the ‘BREAKFAST of CHAMPIONS’ – – – let me explain.
Each spring, when the May issue of the Ensign comes out {with all of the General Conference talks from April}, they hand one out to each lady in the ward and issue a challenge to read or listen to however many talks you decide on. It’s supposed to be a number that would allow you to ‘stretch’ yourself.
The whole ‘stretching’ part isn’t really hard at all,
seeing as we have ALL summer to read the talks.
And I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get EVEN MORE out of those talks when I sit down and READ and HIGHLIGHT my favorite parts.
LOVE having the Ensign copy.
On the back of the bookmark, it has ALL of the talks listed
so you can mark them off as you read.
In August, we have our ‘BREAKFAST of CHAMPIONS’.
This entails a nice breakfast put on by the Relief Society followed by a short program.
The Relief Society asks a few different women {at the START of this challenge} to pray about these talks and study and ponder them. Then, during the program, they share their experiences.
It really is an uplifting morning.
And makes for an even MORE uplifting summer, by doing this.
{Wink!}.
Last year, we actually implemented this challenge with our young women.
It turned out to be a HIT!
We had them read as many talks as possible BEFORE Girls Camp, and then based our nightly devotionals off those. We even had some of the girls in charge of those, picking talks that meant the most to them.
It. Was. Awesome.
Happy Reading!!!
P.S. It’s almost the middle of the month!

Is there a way to get a copy of this? I love this idea and would so enjoy doing it this summer as part of my personal scripture study. Thanks! Renee daisy1282@aol.com

LOVE this idea and have already rounded up a number of women to do this for a summer "book club". Where did you get the quote at the bottom of the challenge in front?
