Service Scavenger Hunt {YW activity idea}.

August 4, 2011 | Uncategorized

Because my sister is also the YW president of her ward…I am posting this fun activity that our youth group did last night.  The girls seemed to have A LOT of fun!  We split into 4 different groups…each group had an adult leader as their driver.  The object was to complete ALL 10 tasks and come back to the church FIRST to be counted as the official winner!  I contacted most of the families ahead of time so that they knew we’d be stopping by their homes… and filled their names into the blank spots.  I also mixed up the sequence on each of the 4 team’s sheets, so that not everyone was at the same place at the same time.  Make sense?  Here’s what they had to do:

Service Scavenger Hunt
1.  Go to the gas station on Riggs and Gilbert and each member must wash someone’s car window.
2.  Go to Albertsons and help someone inside the store checking out…carry out their groceries.
3.  Hand out a Book of Mormon to one person in the shopping center.  Tell them why you love that book.
4.  You each need to put away 2 stray shopping carts found in the parking lot.  Please place them back in the store {Albertsons} where they belong.
5.  Go to the ________ house and give them a spiritual thought…..your favorite scripture!
6.  Deliver your plate of goodies to Sis. Patton’s house and tell her THANK YOU for all she has done serving in the Young Womens
7.  Go to the __________ house and wash {windex}  their sliding glass door OR front windows.
8.  Go to the ___________ house and sweep their front porch free of dirt and leaves.
9.  Go to the ___________ house and pick weeds for 5 minutes.

10. Come back to the church and find ONE ACT OF SERVICE to do around or inside of the building.

There were boxes of candy for the winning team.  Everyone worked so well together and it was {I think?} a big success!

We just did this with my youth group tonight. We had so much fun. Our biggest surprise was how hard it was to get someone to take a bible. One group got it on the 3rd try and one group had to ask 6 different people before they would accept one. The kids commented on seeing the joy on people's faces when they did something for them. Definitely keeping this in my ideas for the future to do again. Thanks for sharing.
