First things FIRST!
How do you like my NEW BLOG LOOK?!?!
I couldn’t be MORE happy with the way it turned out.
Big HUGE THANKS to Brielle at Breezy & Co. for working her magic. She was absolutely fabulous to work with!
I LOVE that NOW you can find my Visiting Teaching Handouts, Recipes and Etsy Shop – – RIGHT AT THE TOP!
I’m super giddy about it.
If you want to smell or taste what my childhood was like…
BAKE THESE COOKIES!
This recipe was my Grandma Misel’s and it’s very near and dear to my heart. I’ve been thinking about her so much lately {she passed away when I was much younger}. Yesterday, I had a somewhat extraordinary experience, where I felt her presence particularly close to me.
Today, I woke up wanting to make her cookies, which I haven’t made in YEARS.
My mom made these cookies for us ALL the time while we were growing up. Especially on rainy days.
They taste SO good and they make your house smell like a dream. I promise.
You can pretty much add anything to them.
My dad has always been a big COCONUT fan so growing up, my mom always threw in a few handfuls of that.
I prefer them with JUST chocolate chips.
And heaven forbid – – PLEASE don’t add raisins instead.
That’s just blasphemous.
GRANDMA MISEL’S APPLESAUCE OATMEAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
Cream together:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter or shortening {my grandma always used shortening but today I only had butter and that was just fine.}
1 egg
1 cup applesauce
Blend in:
1 3/4 cup flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup oats
1 cup chocolate chips
Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minutes.
These cookies are soft and moist {gosh I hate that word, but really that’s the best way to describe them}.

These cookies sealed the deal for me when I was dating my husband. He grew up with them and so did I and we knew it was true love when we discovered we both love them. In fact, two nights ago my hubby begged me to make some and it was 11 pm. Applesauce oatmeal cookie dough is his love language! Haha.

Love the new look!
I grew up spending LOTS of time at your Aunt Sherrie and Uncle John's house (Julie and I are BFF's). Sherrie used to make those cookies, and they are so yummy! Thanks for sharing the recipe.
