This past year {thanks to my sister and her fam} our family has discovered the cute little beach town of Carlsbad, California. Our first trip there was the week before Covid hit in 2020. We went again in August and brought along my parents and nephew and then just got back from yet another little trip there, last week.
This place is quaint and beautiful and we just love it.
While I don’t consider myself to be an expert on Carlsbad {we need many more trips before I can call myself that, right?} one thing is for sure….we do base our trips there around what we are going to eat and where. Oh, and we LOVE trying new places so each time we go, we try at least a couple of new joints.
Here are some of our FAVORITES. And PLEASE! If you have some too, let me know so we can try them next time!! And at the end of this post, I’ll include a few places that we STILL want to try.
Also, sadly, I don’t have pics of all them…you’ll just have to take my word 😉
Cafe Elysa. Right in the heart of the Carlsbad Village. We’ve been here twice now for breakfast and BOTH times have been a hit! This last time, I got the quiche and it was to die for. Their breakfast sandwiches are yummy as well as their stuffed french toast. {London got this last time and it was heavenly.}
Speaking of stuffed french toast and breakfast….
We tried Cafe Topes for the first time last week. It’s my sister’s favorite place to go and usually they have a line out the door. Luckily for us, we got right in! London and I split this dish and truth be told…I could’ve pounded it all by my lonesome self. It was DELICIOUS!
My last breakfast recommendation {for now} is down the road a few miles in Encintas.
It’s called The Potato Shack and their pancakes are legit the biggest ones I’ve ever seen. {Also, why does my son insist on smiling like this every time I take a pic?} I always get their omelette and their red potatoes that come with it are SO dang good. The place is tiny so you’ll probably end up eating outside…which is always lovely.
We tried Village Kitchen and Pie Shoppe last week for dinner as it came highly recommend from several people. Their dinner was okay but their pie STOLE THE SHOW. We got a slice of the chocolate peanut butter and a slice of the coconut cream pie and again….had we have not been sharing….I could’ve eaten the entire coconut cream pie all by myself. I’d recommend stopping here for dessert, getting it to go and eating it back at your hotel.
Back in Encinitas ias a yummy little taco joint that we’ve been to twice now and love. It’s called The Taco Stand and their tacos are street taco style and YUMMY! As are their carne asada fries and bean and cheese burro.
Back in Carlsbad, there’s a yummy pizza place called Pizza Port that gets really busy on the weekends. We ordered ‘the San Francisco’ pizza last week and that…with a side of their ranch is pretty close to what dreams are made of. I’m sure of it.
And lastly…our favorite burger joint is in Oceanside and it’s called Ty’s Burger House. Their onion rings were some of the best we’ve ever had. We were super bummed that they were closed for Memorial Day when we were there last week. {Like SUPER bummed.} We settled for a place called Angelo’s and let’s just say….that place was not my fave.
Places I still want to try: Cessy’s Taco, Knockout Burger and Park 101.
{Oh…and one more place we LOVE in Carlsbad…..Board and Brew. We usually eat there each time! BEST sandwiches!}
Now what have I missed? What do YOU recommend?
