Christmas has come and gone and to be quite honest {TBH as the young folks say}….I’m super sad. Which is normal. Not a year goes by that I don’t get the post holiday blues. I wish I didn’t….but I do. So much fun is always had and memories are made. I find myself wanting to hold onto it all for as long as possible before the new year begins. My family room is still in a state of disarray. Empty boxes everywhere with tissue paper still hanging out. I’m hoping I get up enough gusto to at least organize the room a bit before I slowly start to take down the decor on New Year’s Eve/Day.
I think with the pandemic this year, it really helped us all slow down on Christmas and savor every second. There was no rushing off to the movies {a yearly tradition}. There was no rushing ANYWHERE, really, and it felt so nice. In fact on Christmas day….we stayed in our jammies for the ENTIRE day. Even when we went over to my parent’s house for Christmas dinner. It was pretty awesome. I’ll share all of our Christmas day details tomorrow but tonight…. I am recapping our Christmas Eve.
Christmas Eve.
To be a child again and feel that Christmas magic again on Christmas Eve. There’s nothing quite like it, am I right? This was the first year that we had no ‘believers’ but it was all still quite magical if you ask me. The kids still wanted to do ALL of the usual traditions which make me oh so happy!
We decorated a gingerbread house.
I actually have a love/hate relationship with this tradition. It’s so dang messy! Who’s with me?
I finished up wrapping the last couple of family gifts that I needed to and then we headed over to Joe’s parent’s hosue for our annual Coombs Family Christmas Party.
We look forward to this party all year long and this year was no exception!
Joe’s brother smoked a brisket and we had alllll the yummy sides to go with it!
London was in charge of coming up with a Christmas style Jeopardy – – she shines in her element!
And we had our traditional Coombs cousin talent show – – which is always a highlight!!
We were able to all FaceTime with our nephew who is serving a mission in New York which was SO heartwarming and then we ended the evening with Grandpa Scott reading Luke 2.
Grandpa Scott went through colon cancer this year + chemotherapy and it was such a blessing to have him HEALTHY and with us and able to read one of our very favorite passages in the scriptures to us all. We were so grateful for that!!
We headed home and opened Christams jammies….
And then we all piled on the couch and watched “A Christmas Story” until it was time for Santa to come 😉
