Today I had the opportunity to teach my sweet Young Women the lesson on:
There are SO many good topics to cover this month that go along with the Self-Reliance theme.
I started out our lesson by asking them what they thought of when the heard the words
SELF-RELIANCE.
We came up with a list {that was supposed to be put on the chalkboard but I forgot my chalk!}.
Some words included: food storage, working, not depending on others, etc.
Can I just tell you HOW MUCH I LOVE this video?
It’s only 7 minutes and it touches my heart each time I see it.
{I showed it to my boys this past week and their eyes were as big as golf balls.}
It’s such a neat story about a hard-working young man who not only is temporally self-reliant, but spiritually self-reliant as well.
Watch it!
After the video we discussed the ways that this young man exemplified self-reliance.
Then I showed the girls a picture of a honey comb.

We discussed for a minute what we knew about BEES.
They’re hardworking, always busy, they make honey, they work together….there’s a saying that goes ‘busy as a bee’ because they are always doing something productive to help out their colony, etc.
{Google ‘Why are bees hard workers?’ and lots of facts will come up!}
We then went over 6 of the different areas {listed in the True to the Faith book} that we can foucs on in our efforts at becoming more self-reliant.
If you’d like a copy of my 6 Bee themed Word Strips to put on the chalkboard and discuss you can click HERE.
We discussed each area for a couple of minutes
{there are lots of scriptures that go along with each category}.
I asked the girls to share personal experiences with each category as well.
I ended my lesson by giving out these handouts…
Honeycombs, of course!
I bought some clear tall plastic pretzel bags and placed a handful of cereal in each one.

The True to the Faith link doesn't work, and I couldn't find those specific categories in the book.

It is under "Welfare" on page 184-185. The title is becoming self-reliant. I had a hard time finding it too.

Where did you buy the clear bags?
Marci Coombs says
Hey Cassie! I found them at JoAnns but I'm pretty sure Hobby Lobby and Michaels both carry them too in their Wilton baking section – with the pretzel molds! xoxo
