I go through reading spurts. I love to read a) on a trip and b) in bed at night. I’ve got two books that I am SUPER excited to delve into.
I’ve been wanting to read this one for quite some time now and was super excited to FINALLY find it at my library.
Synopsis: When Kimberly Chang and her mother emigrate from Hong Kong to Brooklyn squalor, she quickly begins a secret double life: exceptional schoolgirl during the day, Chinatown sweatshop worker in the evenings. Disguising the more difficult truths of her life-like the staggering degree of her poverty, the weight of her family’s future resting on her shoulders, or her secret love for a factory boy who shares none of her talent or ambition-Kimberly learns to constantly translate not just her language but herself back and forth between the worlds she straddles.
The movie version of this is coming out soon so my goal is to have it read by then. Can’t wait!
Synopsis: Emma Morley and Dexter Meyhew, meet properly for the first time on the 15th July 1988, the night of their graduation from University.
We meet them again, on the same day each year for the next twenty years. Each chapter of the book, covers Emma and Dexter’s lives on that day, following their lives, loves and tribulations, and more importantly their enduring friendship. You see, Emma and Dexter have one of those friendships, that is so strong and deep it is often to the detriment of others in their lives
P.S. Have you read THE HELP yet? It is a MUST. My favorite book in a LONG time. Movie opens up next Wednesday.
